4 Phases of Flourishing: Leadership Fiji

I was invited to give a talk recently to the 2022 Leadership Fiji cohort (they just graduated, actually), thanks to amazing cohort-member, intersectional queer feminist activist, and fashion designer Sidhant Maharaj, who is familiar with my work and a great example of someone who is applying the tools Alchemus Prime offers. In what I feel is a wonderfully progressive development, I was asked to speak about leadership, emotional wellbeing, and trauma.

My talk focused on Alchemus Prime’s Living and Leading Authentically Framework, and its four phases of flourishing, based on the results I’ve seen with 70 coaching clients in 7 years, plus my self-love course, retreats, and workshops:

  1. Self-Love: Learning how to love ourselves and cleanse our minds and emotions of conditioning and unhealthy habits we learned early on due to adverse childhood experiences.
  2. Empowerment: Armed with self-love, addressing the root causes of our trauma to stop it from controlling our emotions, leadership styles, behaviors, and relationships.
  3. Authenticity: Allowing the true self to emerge so we can live according to who we are, not what others expect from us or our own people-pleasing tendencies. This allows us to lead from a place of compassion, not traumatized and toxic control.
  4. Career Manifestation: Aligning our careers with our authentic selves to create our calling: melding our skills, talents, passions, and service for the betterment of the planet.

I showed the books I have authored and co-authored for each phase and discussed the courses I teach as well. I spoke about the results of going through this process: self-love as a foundation, strong boundaries, more mindfulness and compassion, leadership based on integrity and authenticity, aligned work and service, and prolific creativity.

A day or two after the talk, I received an email with some feedback on my talk:

Very interactive with her presentation. Compelling insights offered on the many facets of trauma and how to circumnavigate through such events in your adult life.

I loved her talk and enjoyed listening about the different causes of trauma and how to deal with it.

She gave an interesting take on dealing with trauma and the key being mindfulness. I loved how she shared on consciously creating a space to separate yourself from absorbing anyone’s negative energy.

I learnt that firstly I need to love myself for who I am. If I start to love myself then I will be empowered.

It’s really humbling to be able to share this work, receive this feedback and to see that even a short presentation can inspire an audience of astute young leaders to think differently about trauma and begin to understand more about its role in our lives.

I’m grateful to Sidhant and the management team of Leadership Fiji for the invitation. Share with me your own insights about trauma, leadership and emotional wellbeing.
