5 Principles of (Quantum) Energy Leadership

This morning I picked up a book that a colleague recommended, called Energy Leadership, and read it from cover to cover. It struck me that most of my life experiences for the last 17 years have one common denominator: quantum physics.

In basic terms, everything we think is solid matter is actually energy. Einstein famously showed us that matter is equal to energy. Quantum physics demonstrates that we are made of atoms that have no physical structure – we are made of vibrating energy.

What does this have to do with leadership? Bruce D. Schneider’s wonderfully-written book, Energy Leadership gives us practical tools for moving from apathy and anger to self-transcendence, absolute joy, and passion. As we raise our vibration, we can release judgments and the desire to control, and access the ability to create at will. Burgeoning creativity and synthesis allow us to manifest our reality.

In other words, when we are vibrating with the highest, truest self energy, we can make our dreams come true. Whether it’s for your business, career, or family, you can practice the powerful leadership philosophy illustrated in this book to have more integrity, accountability, and emotional intelligence. You can use the skills from this book to coach your team to greater heights.

I pondered these five wise principles from this book – here they are in summary with a note about how they relate to the science-based Alchemus Prime Diamond Model:

  1. There are no problems or challenges, only opportunities and possibilities. In design thinking, we use this principle to reframe problem statements into open-ended questions that invite creative brainstorming.
  2. The answers to all our questions lie within us – we need only learn how to access them. Meditation helps us become more aware of our own limitless capabilities and find the answers with more precision and efficiency.
  3. In each moment, there are opportunities for deciding who we want to be. There is no fixedness, everything is changing, and we have tremendous capacity to change our attitudes and behaviors to craft who we are.
  4. The greatest freedom is freedom of choice. We have access to 3.8 billion years of successful thriving of life in nature through biomimicry, and can use those lessons to guide our choices as leaders.
  5. We can be completely involved in a process or task, and completely detached from the outcome. This takes an integration of science and practice: through mindfulness of process (as in design thinking), meditation, and attention to how we can change our behavior and learn from nature as leaders, we can give our best without clinging to outcomes. This is the ultimate energy leadership: service, synthesis, creativity, and passion.

I feel immensely grateful for the creations that are arriving through my true self, including my last book, a collection of essays about personal and planetary wellness, and a forthcoming recipe book co-authored with my mom – launching next week – stay tuned.
